Colorado Springs Crop Walk

We Walk Because They Walk

Are you interested in participating in the Crop Walk, but don’t know where to start? We now have a web page that tells you exactly what you need to get started: http://coloradospringscropwalk.com/new-to-crop-walk/.

The main walk has been posted. Go to the Map of Route tab (or click here) to see the 3.1 mile route. The 1 mile route should be posted soon. We recently walked this, and it is quite nice.

CROP originally stood for “Christian Rural Overseas Program”, when it was first created in 1948. The original idea behind CROP was for midwestern crop farmers in the US to give grain to the recovering countries in post-WWII Europe.

Today, the focus of CROP is now more about interfaith hunger awareness and fundraising, both around the world and within our own country. CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.

The mission of the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is to give hope to homeless families with children. IHN realizes its mission by providing transitional shelter and supportive services to homeless families and those at immediate risk to experience homelessness. IHN’s primary goal is to assist families with children to permanently transition into independent affordable housing; secondary goals include meeting community transitional housing needs in the most cost-effective manner possible and providing church congregations with an opportunity to put their faith into action.
The Interfaith Hospitality Network derives its name from its numerous partnerships with area churches and synagogues that provide shelter and direct support to homeless families; the network includes congregations of diverse faiths and denominations. However, IHN is a secular nonprofit organization whose services are available to all families with children regardless of personal religious beliefs; Network congregations are strictly prohibited from proselytizing to guest families.

Church World Service works with partners to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote peace and justice around the world. Together we reach out to neighbors in need near and far–not with a hand out, but a hand up.

Around the world, Church World Service supports sustainable grassroots development, disaster relief, and refugee assistance, and we educate and advocate on hunger-related issues.  In the U.S., we help communities respond to disasters, resettle refugees, promote fair national and international policies, and provide educational resources.

I will be working on the site this weekend (Memorial Day Weekend 2010), updating and adding information and photos. A fan page has been created on Facebook – you can join by clicking on the FB logo in the upper right corner of the site.
